"The reality today is that food is mostly harming us."
Paul Saladino, MD
"Seed oils are the single most processed food on the planet."
Chris Knobbe, MD
The path to live a healthy life seemed clear; eat a balanced diet, exercise frequently, and follow the Standard American Diet. Yet obesity and chronic disease have skyrocketed. Fed A Lie examines the correlation between the introduction of seed oils – the most ultra-processed food on the planet – and the rise of obesity and chronic disease.
Double Board Certified MD, Author, Speaker, Health & Nutrition Advocate
Paul is a double board certified MD, host of the Fundamental Health podcast, and author of The Carnivore Code and The Carnivore Code Cookbook.
Paul believes in questioning assumptions about health and nutrition, which has made him a controversial figure in medicine. He's much more interested in optimal health than in dogmatic adherence to a mainstream narrative.
He graduated from medical school at the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ, and completed his residency at the University of Washington in Seattle. After residency, he attained a board certification as a Physician Nutrition Specialist. Throughout his medical training, he came to one very saddening conclusion: our Western medical system isn’t helping people lead richer lives.
Western medicine fails to treat the root cause of chronic illness, and doctors are only taught to treat symptoms with medications, rather than trying to understand the roots of illness.
Paul firmly believes that nutritional choices lie at the ROOT of so many chronic illnesses that western medicine deems irreversible.
Paul believes that most chronic illnesses are preventable AND reversible.
All of his research has led him to believe that an animal-based diet is the most species-appropriate diet for humans… And the best way to live a life of optimal health.
Physician, Public Health Advocate, Author, & Associate Clinical Professor Emeritus
Chris Knobbe, MD, is a physician, public health advocate, researcher, ophthalmologist, and Associate Clinical Professor Emeritus, formerly of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.
Dr. Knobbe is known primarily for his research, publications, and presentations connecting Westernized diets causally to numerous chronic diseases, including coronary heart disease, hypertension, stroke, cancers, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, obesity, Alzheimer’s disease, autoimmune diseases, and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Dr. Knobbe’s research has focused greatly on ‘vegetable oil’ (industrial seed oil) dangers and their unequaled contributions to Westernized disease.
In the field of ophthalmology, Dr. Knobbe is known for his revolutionary hypothesis and supportive research regarding the potentially blinding eye disease, AMD. Knobbe’s hypothesis holds that AMD is driven by processed, nutrient-deficient, and toxic foods, of which seed oils are the most pernicious and deleterious.

Her greatest joy is being a wife and mother, and Bethany continues to touch and inspire lives globally as a professional surfer, author and motivational speaker.
Growing up in Hawaii and living a life immersed in nature, Bethany led a healthy life. Eventually her health journey brought her to the destruction that industrially processed seed oils can cause our bodies. Bethany has been a crucial voice and advocate for whole foods for many years.
Seed oils—derived from crops like soybeans, corn, and cottonseed—are often marketed as healthier alternatives to animal fats. However, the rise of these industrially processed oils coincides with a dramatic increase in chronic diseases like obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Below, we explore the evidence against seed oils and their new role in the modern diet.
Seed oils have infiltrated the modern diet, driven by profit and convenience rather than health. Their high omega-6 content and inflammatory properties make them a likely contributor to the rise of chronic diseases. By returning to traditional fats and whole, minimally processed foods, we can mitigate the health risks associated with seed oils.
